Carlos Sainz could not deny his devotion to Real Madrid by turning down a fan’s request to sign a Barcelona shirt. Because of his day job, driving one of the famous red Ferrari F1 cars on race weekends, Sainz has an army of fans.

However, driving his personal vehicle, he was mobbed by a group of ecstatic supporters this week. The racer rolled down the window of his black SUV to greet the onlookers. When approached by a hopeful fan holding a Barcelona top, he became suddenly much less accommodating, as captured on camera.

The shirt, which had Lionel Messi’s name and number 10 on the back from his time with the Catalan club was handed to Sainz along with a pen for him to sign. However, as soon as the Ferrari star noticed the colours, he quickly declined the request.

“No, I’m not signing this,” he said in his native Spanish, eliciting laughter from other fans. While the F1 racer drove away, the supporter wearing the shirt yelled, “Forca Barca!” Sainz was born in Madrid and is a die-hard Real Madrid supporter. Los Blancos made the 27-year-old’s father,  Carlos Sr, an honorary member in recognition of his incredible rallying career.

Carlos Sainz has previously been photographed wearing Los Blancos jersey and has appeared in numerous videos on the club’s social media channels. Sainz is F1’s newest race winner, having won his first race in the sport earlier this month at the British Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver is fourth in the standings with 144 points, on his way to his best-ever F1 points total.

However, he is in danger of dropping out of contention for the championship this season, trailing leader Max Verstappen by 89 points. He is also 26 points behind teammate Charles Leclerc, putting Ferrari under pressure to choose a driver to prioritize for the remainder of the season.
