WATCH: US striker does pole dance wearing a Netherlands jersey after his nation’s defeat at 2022 FIFA World Cup
Ricardo Pepi
Ricardo Pepi, a forward from the United States, was seen pole dancing in a jersey from the Netherlands after apparently losing a gamble on the World Cup round of 16. Surprisingly, Pepi was not included in Gregg Berhalter’s team, which was eliminated from the competition by the Dutch.
Despite the laughter, some people on social media quickly came to his defense, suggesting that he was only wearing the Holland shirt because he had lost a bet with a teammate. Pepi has been impressive in the Dutch league this season, with six goals in nine games while on loan from German side Augsburg. His exclusion from the USA’s World Cup squad was a surprise to some, and there is no evidence that his wearing of the Holland jersey was meant to mock the 3-1 defeat to Holland in the last-16.
Pepi expressed his dissatisfaction at not being included in the squad, calling it “disappointing“. He said, “It’s disappointing because I felt like I gave myself the best opportunities to be in the World Cup roster”.

The Netherlands defeated the USA 3-1 to go to the quarterfinals
Ten minutes into the match, Memphis Depay fired off a fantastic shot that went straight into the bottom corner, making it the first time team USA had been scored against in open play during the World Cup. It was also the first time someone other than Cody Gakpo opened the scoring for the Netherlands in this tournament.
Team USA had a solid beginning to the match, but they ultimately could not capitalize on their chances, and the Netherlands ended up dominating the game. The Dutch had a two-goal lead heading into the halftime break. Despite their efforts, the Americans could not put up a significant challenge to their opponents. The USA team managed to bring the score closer with a goal from Haji Wright at the 76-minute mark, but Denzel Dumfries countered by scoring off a cross from Blind shortly afterward.
The USA was outplayed tactically by the Netherlands team. Despite having the majority of possession (59%) and shots at goal, the Netherlands effectively soaked up the USA’s attacks and capitalized on their mistakes. The victory for Louis van Gaal’s side was a comfortable one. They will face Argentina in the quarterfinals.
