“Too many ball losses,” Thomas Tuchel wants Bayern Munich to improve on these areas despite 4-2 win over BVB Dortmund

Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich reign could not have gotten off to a better start, with his side easing past a lacklustre Borussia Dortmund team in the Der Klassiker earlier this week. However, the former Chelsea manager was not overwhelmed by the win and has already pointed out some shortcomings in the team’s performance.

Following the victory, Tuchel commented on the match, “I am happy with the desire of the players, but we still have alot to do. We were nervous in the beginning, I was also the reason, I was very nervous in the beginning.” The German manager continued, “Then it got better, but overall we had to many ball losses. In the buildup in the last third, we had alot of unforced errors that made it intense for us.”

The new Bayern Manager still managed to see the silver lining, commenting “They (Bayern Munich) dug in, defended well and defended as a team. Alot of good signs, perfect result for us, because there was alot of pressure on us.” but followed it up with, “Now we need to improve alot of space for us to improve.

The win in the Der Klassiker catapults Bayern back to first place, a more familiar place for the Bavarians, who might have begun doubting themselves, not being in the driving seat this late in the season. The upper management would want to see the team turn around and put themselves in the driving seat of the league once again.

Bayern Munich’s 2020 Pokal Win: Via Bayern Munich

Having regained the top place in the Bundesliga, for the time being at least, Bayern Munich must now focus on their upcoming clash against SC Freiburg in the DFB Pokal Quarter Final. The Bavarians are still firmly in the charge for a treble, and the DFB Pokal still has all 6 of the top teams in the Bundesliga competing for the cup.

Having last won the cup in 2020, in their stellar “sextuple” season, Bayern Munich will be hoping for a repeat of their previous triumphs, but Freiburg will prove to be a formidable opponent and will also host the league leaders at the Europa Park Stadion just three days after the Pokal Quarter Final. Should the league leaders manage to defeat SC Freiburg, they will have either Eintracht Frankfurt or Union Berlin waiting for them in the DFB Pokal Semi-Finals.
