“We want him to stay”- Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag discloses plans regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future
Erik ten Hag and Cristiano Ronaldo
Ten Hag said when asked if this might have been Ronaldo’s farewell match: “We plan with him. So we want him to stay. So that is what we want.” Ronaldo’s contract has one year left, so United may be able to compel him to stay, but when asked whether it was up to him, he responded, “I hope so.”
The Dutchman added that despite the uncertainty around Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford’s problems in that position against Southampton, United didn’t need to add another striker before the transfer window closed.
“I think he Rashford was quite effective, especially the first 15 mins after half-time. He understood he has to be a target at times,” said Ten Hag.
“He was the one who creates the situations. He was involved in the situations after half time and he played an important role in our attacks in the first 15 mins after half-time. “That is what I expected when there is a lot of pressure on the ball that there is a striker that we can play over and he did well.
“We have Cristiano, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford so we are okay”.
Erik ten Hag has already begun implementing strategies
In the preseason, Ten Hag preferred a 4-2-3-1 formation with flank players such Anthony Elanga, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford. All of those guys are especially strong when going up against defenders one on one. They are nimble, adept at dribbling, and a danger from behind.
Erik ten Hag appears to be doing well so far. The new Manchester United manager has overseen three friendlies, winning all three while allowing just two goals to be conceded. Although the 52-year-old will be happy, he isn’t overjoyed. Ten Hag has emphasised numerous times that his players need to get better in a variety of areas.
The Red Devils appear to be improving with each game. They are gradually implementing the strategies of their new head coach, with one recent improvement against Crystal Palace being particularly noticeable.
