As Liverpool cruised to victory over West Ham in the Carabao Cup, Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the London club’s star winger, Jarrod Bowen. After scoring against the Reds, he captured the German manager’s attention who publicly expressed his admiration for the English forward.
He also went as far as to dub him his ‘favorite player’ outside of the Liverpool squad. These comments incited a reaction from West Ham’s striker Michail Antonio who offered a candid suggestion to Klopp. According to Antonio, he underlined Klopp to ‘bring the money’ if they were interested in Bowen.
Jurgen Klopp said before the game that Jarrod Bowen is his favorite player in the league other than his players. I think he’s trying to lay those seeds man, he wants Jarrod. He [Klopp] can lay seeds all he likes! He’s just signed a seven-year deal. If you want that, bring the money! Are you letting Salah go?Michail Anotnio said on Footballer’s Football Podcast
He further questioned the same transfer strategy which Liverpool follow where they didn’t let Mohamed Salah leave without getting a hefty fee. Bowen who scored the winning goal for West Ham’s Conference League victory has been monumental in the club’s recent rise to success. He was awarded with a seven-year contract with the East London club, to secure his future services.
Antonio’s comments further emphasize the importance of Jarron Bowen for the current West Ham squad. It also addresses the importance of retaining key players and how managers and media turn comments to influence player transfers. With the January window about to open soon, it would be interesting to see if Liverpool make the move for top-tier talents as clubs will ask for prices they feel are justified.
Michail Antonio dejected after West Ham’s humiliating loss to Liverpool
West Ham’s Antonio called the 5-1 loss to Liverpool an ‘extremely bad day’. Injured for the match, he joked on the Footballer’s Football Podcast that they deliberately let Liverpool score five for future opponents’ confidence. Antonio admitted disappointment but emphasized moving on and focusing on their positive Premier League form.

Antonio admitted the performance fell below West Ham’s standards, citing difficulty in challenging Liverpool and creating chances. He expressed disappointment about missing the semi-finals but stressed moving on and focusing on their strong Premier League form.
Despite the setback, Antonio recognized the team’s busy schedule with European football and the importance of accepting the defeat gracefully. With fewer cup fixtures, West Ham aims to channel their energy into pushing forward in the Premier League. The loss serves as a learning experience for the team, prompting them to regroup and maintain their positive momentum in domestic competition.
