When Cristiano Ronaldo was arrested for alleged r*pe of two women in London
Cristiano Ronaldo was arrested for alleged rapes during his early career days

Cristiano Ronaldo was arrested over the alleged rape of two women at a London hotel suite. The police reportedly prepared a warrant for Ronaldo in 2019 after Kathryn Mayorga accused him of rape during a June 2009 encounter, but decided against pursuing it due to insufficient evidence. The victim claimed through a letter that the Portuguese international paid her $375,000 to remain silent over the issue. However, the player claimed that the ‘sex’ was consensual.
He was also arrested for the alleged raping of a woman with another man at a central London hotel in 2005. The player denied these allegations and subsequently charges against him were dropped due to insufficient evidence. One of the accusers later withdrew her allegation.
He said: “I have been notified that the police investigation has been closed and no action will be taken against me in relation to the allegations made previously. I have always strongly maintained my innocence of any wrongdoing and I am glad that this matter is at an end so that I can concentrate on playing for Manchester United.”
The Mayorga settlement was leaked in 2017 and she took advantage of the situation to demand a further sum of over $77 million. The Portuguese reacted by calling it fake news and criticizing people who wanted to get famous from his name. He was acquitted from both cases and has continued with his career for the time being.

The Portuguese icon set to continue international duties

Cristiano Ronaldo participates in the Euros after being included in the upcoming fixtures in the national squad. Martinez held talks with the veteran forward this week before electing to call him up. Ronaldo refused to retire from international football after being sidelined before suffering a quarter-final heartbreak to underdogs Morocco.
The 38-year-old also left Europe at the end of last year, signing for Saudi outfit Al-Nassr with whom he has since recorded eight goals in nine matches. Although there has been no indication yet as to the extent of his involvement in the qualifiers, it seems that Ronaldo remains committed to representing his country, as they will also provide him with an opportunity for the same.
It is still a doubt if he will start over the youngster Goncalo Ramos given his form in the league and the World Cup in 2022 scoring a hattrick against the Swiss but there is no denying the veteran’s immense qualities and could still be the decisive factor in the Portugal attack.
