Renowned Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol, on Tuesday, questioned coach Xavi Hernandez’s impact on FC Barcelona. He seems to feel that the club has lost its authenticity under the Spaniard.

In a recent interview, when asked if Xavi is really better than his predecessor Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona, Joseph replied in a very unfiltered fashion. He reportedly said, “Xavi as Barcelona coach has not been better than Ronald Koeman. I was told that results were not important, but how to win, the style “.

Pedrerol then questioned about where the authentic Barca playing style went. He said, “Where is Barça’s DNA, Xavi? The way this Barcelona plays isn’t the one we saw under the previous managers. They seem to have lost their authenticity”.

Although most of the other supporters seem to be really happy with Xavi at Barca. That is because he has shown impact from the moment he took the charge. Last season after Koeman left, the club was in fifth place and it looked difficult that the Catalans would find a Champions League spot. However, Xavi’s work got them to second place on the league table by the end of the last season. This season too, the club has been promising enough.

They sit right at the top of the La Liga point table with a 13 points lead. And it seems that they might end up lifting the league trophy at the end of the season. But the club’s failure at the European Championships has made a few like Joseph think that Barcelona might be in need of the “original” and “authentic” Barca DNA which they are allegedly missing under their former captain’s management.

According to reports, FC Barcelona has reportedly offered a two-year contract extension to manager Xavi Hernandez. Six years after he left, Xavi returned to Barcelona as a manager in November 2021. He replaced Ronald Koeman. Xavi salvaged a disappointing campaign. And lead the team to a second-place finish in La Liga.

In his first full season in charge, Xavi has already won the Spanish Super Cup. And he is on track to lead Barcelona to the La Liga title. Xavi’s current contract runs until 2024. And president Joan Laporta had already made it clear that he wants to offer Xavi a new contract. The manager, though, wanted to seal the La Liga crown first before discussing a new deal.

However, earlier today, Xavi’s agents reportedly had a meeting with Barcelona officials to discuss the contract renewal. Now, it has emerged that the 43-year-old former Spanish international has been offered a two-year extension. This would tie him down at Barcelona until 2026.

As per the report, today’s meeting was the first contact between the two parties to ensure that both wanted the same thing. The Barcelona officials reportedly wanted to make sure that Xavi wants to continue at the club and is serious about a renewal. The manager, for his part, has always maintained that he wants to remain at Camp Nou for as long as possible. This was despite the constant pressure and scrutiny the job brings. More talks are expected to take place and Xavi’s renewal until 2026 could soon be finalized.
