Xavi Hernandez, indeed, has nothing but admiration for his players. He showed the world another example after he referred to Ousmane Dembele as ‘the greatest winger ever played in a Barcelona jersey. The Barcelona manager has often relied on Dembele as their first-choice winger in crucial games for the Catalans.

Xavi told Amazon Prime in the documentary series “FC Barcelona, to new era,” : “I’ve been with Barca for 25 years, and I’ve never seen a winger at the same level as Dembele.” This might surprise numerous fans as the former midfield maestro has played with players like Neymar Jr. Pedro and the all-time great Lionel Messi on the wings. Nevertheless, Xavi believes in Ousmane Dembele‘s quality and the responsibility he has at the club.

Ousmane Dembele came to Barcelona in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund. Since then, he has played 170 games for the Spanish giants. He has 37 goals and 41 assists for the team. The French youngster is still searching for redemption for all the years he wasted due to injuries under Xavi. This season, he has been explosive and regularly linked up with a newly-arrived Robert Lewandowski.

Xavi was appointed as FC Barcelona’s manager this summer after the Catalans sacked former legendary defender Ronald Koeman. What happened to Ousmane Dembele this season?

The French winger is on a hunt as he is breaking defenders’ ankles now and then for both club and country. Since 2017, Ousmane Dembele has received a lot of criticism because of his consistent injury patterns. He has been instrumental for FC Barcelona since Xavi arrived at the club. Dembele has five goals and seven assists in just 20 games for Barcelona this season.

Following his explosive display, Didier Deschamps called the Frenchman up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He had a decent tournament but faced the most haunting moments in his football career during the final against Argentina. Dembele gave away a penalty after fouling Angel Di Maria. The French manager took him off only after 42 minutes in the game.
