“You don’t smear people with impunity”- French football player sues English publication over ‘scandalous’ journalism
Moussa Sissoko during a press conference.
Former Tottenham football player Moussa Sissoko has denied all the claims over a recent rumor suggesting that he was taken to court by his energy company because of not being able to pay a £61,000 bill at his £3m Mayfair flat. He has termed all the allegations as false and has also denied the claims that he was taken to court because of the unpaid bill.
The Nantes player was rumored to have generated a £60,000 debt at his Mayfair flat but he later took to his social media and cleared all the questions and stated that the newspaper outlet, The Sun has used his name and image and that it doesn’t concern him at all. After spending around ten years in the Premier League, he moved back to France to play for Nantes this summer.
He has also confirmed that The Sun has mistaken his identity. Having signed for Nantes this year from Watford, he and his wife Marylou Sidibe moved out of the flat earlier this year for moving back to France. And there were allegations that his company Yu Energy planned to continue its pursuit of him in France.
What did Sissoko have to say about the paper?
Sissoko wrote on his Twitter, “@TheSun you used my name and image for a matter that doesn’t concern me. You have not verified your information and this is causing personal harm to me and my family. Because of a namesake, you sold the paper on my back? Ok, I am filing a complaint against you and justice will do its job.”
He added, “You don’t smear people with impunity just to create buzz. Next time you’ll do your job better as a pseudo scandalous journalist. “ He also insisted that the incident was, “a matter that doesn’t concern me.” He has played 11 times in all competitions, both in Ligue 1 and the Europa League, and looks to focus on his playing career to finish off his career on a high at Nantes.
