There have been a hugely noticeable link between deaths of prominent and Aaron Ramsey scoring a goal, with this phenomenon popularly termed as the “Ramsey Curse”.

“Ramsey Curse” is a popular phrase that come up everytime the Welsh midfielder scores, which is accustomed with many finding eerie connections of him scoring with the incidences of unfortunate death events of many popular celebrities around the globe.

The myth of the ‘Ramsey Curse’

This particular frenzied myth unravelled back in 2018, when professional darts player Eric Bristow died after suffering a sudden heart attack, shortly after the Ramsey scored for Arsenal in their 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow. Fans around the world were quick to find links between the two, with many citing previous incidences of the same happening.

Fans have tagged the the unfortunate coincidences as “The Curse of Aaron Ramsey” or ‘Ramsey Curse’. Out of 62 goals Ramsey has scored in his entire career, 21 of them have been followed by the death of a famous celebrity shortly afterwards.

Ramsey, however, took it lightly as a joke, waiving off any connections as such and deemed it utterly ‘ridiculous’; “The most ridiculous rumour I’ve heard is that people die after I score.”

“There have been loads of occasions where I’ve scored and somebody has died.”

Ramsey has also joked about the positive side of the myth, saying; “That’s just a crazy rumour. Although I took out some baddies!”

Ted Kennedy – Died on August 25, 2009, three days after Ramsey scored against Portsmouth.

Osama Bin Laden – Died on May 2, 2011, a day after Ramsey scored against Manchester United.

Steve Jobs – Died on October 5, 2011, three days after Ramsey scored against Tottenham Hotspur.

Muammar Gaddafi – Died on October 20, 2011, a day after Ramsey scored against Marseille.
