Real Madrid defeated their arch rivals Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the Madrid Derby at the Santiago Bernabeu. This victory saw Ancelloti’s men 7 points ahead of their nearest rival for the title, Sevilla. However, Sevilla still have a game in hand and are expected to win it.
The Los Blancos dominated the El Derbi yesterday night and are currently one of the most in-form teams in Europe with the team playing exceptionally well. Real Madrid have won their 7th consecutive top-flight game and are unbeaten in 11 games against Atletico Madrid in the league.
“We are clear favourites”- Carlo Ancelloti after the El Derbi victory:
Carlo Ancelloti believes his team are “clear favourites” after his team’s convincing 2-0 win against reigning champions Atletico Madrid. Goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio sealed the victory for the Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu.
La Liga leaders Real Madrid moved 18 points clear of FC Barcelona and 13 points clear of Atletico Madrid. The Los Blancos stretched their unbeaten run over their rivals to 11 games. Real Madrid have lost only 1 game in the league this season and are the highest scoring team in the league.
Carlo Ancelloti was in a good mood after the El Derbi win and addressed the media with a beaming smile. When he was asked about his impact on the team, the Italian coach said,” I don’t think it’s the Ancelloti effect, I have a team that leaves me calm because of what they do on the field.”
Ancelloti also added,” They handle the game very well and they have defensive commitment. It’s a team, not just high-quality players, and that is the difference.”
Carlo Ancelloti believes his team are on a fantastic run and are playing better football than most of the teams in the league. The Italian manager stated,” We are clear fovourites because we done very well, better than others, but we are focused on the next matches because a mental downturn can cost us dearly. This is the only way to get closer to winning.”
When asked about what he thinks his side had most improved at, the Italian manager said,” Of the team, I really like the defensive aspect. It is the one that we have improved the most since the beginning of the season.
Ancelloti also added,” We are more solid. Although the pressure is not too high, with a lower block we use the forwards for the counter-attacks.”

Ancelloti on Luka Modric and Vinicius Junior after their impressive win:
Carlo Ancelloti was full of praise for his side after their impressive win in the El Derbi. One particular that stood out for Ancelloti was the Croatian midfielder, Luka Modric.
Luka Modric made a team-high of 3 interceptions and had a 90.1% pass completion rate. His all-round display was fantastic and he certainly bossed the midfield, making him undroppable. Modric proved that age is just a number with his fantastic display at the highest level and is one of Ancelloti’s go-to players.
When asked about Modric’s game, Carlo Ancelloti said,” I have congratulated him on the game because he was incredible.” The Italian manager also added,” He had a spectacular game, with personality and character. He is an extraordinary player.”
The other standout player for the Los Blancos was the Brazilian wonderkid Vinicius Junior. The 21 year old has been one of the best performers in La Liga as well as Europe. He is currently the most in-form players in Europe along with the Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
Vinicius Junior has scored 10 goals and assisted 4 times in just 17 League games. He has already scored more goals this season than he had in the previous years at Real Madrid.
Vinicius Junior assisted 2 goals in last night’s game and was a contender for the Man of the Match award. The Brazilian international also became the first player to provide 2 assists in an El Derbi in the 21st century.
When asked about Vinicius, Ancelloti stated,” He is improving himself. I don’t talk to him much because I don’t have much to say to him, he just needs to make it effective.”
The Italian also added,” I tell him he doesn’t have to dribble to do it. You have to do something to help the team and he has made 2 assists that have helped us win the game.”
