“It is a very difficult moment”- Sergio Aguero calls time on his storied career

Sergio Aguero, aged 33 has eventually decided to bring an end to his esteemed career, which spanned for 18 years starting out as a tearaway forward in Argentina. The Argentine striker suffered an unusual heart condition during a football match, which prompted the doctors to advice him to not play again at the highest level.

Aguero had called for a press meet at the Camp Nou, and took the opportunity to make the big call in the presence of his former Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola who had flown in from Manchester especially to see off his star striker.

What did Sergio Aguero say in his press conference?

This conference is to announce I have decided to stop playing professional football,” he said. “It is a very difficult moment. The decision I have taken is for my health [and relates to] the problem I had a month-and-a-half ago. I have been in good hands with the medical staff.

“I made the decision 10 days ago after doing everything possible to have some hope of playing on. I am very proud of my career. I always dreamed of a professional career since the first time I touched a ball at five.

“I want to thank Atletico Madrid who took a chance on me when I was 18 and Manchester City, everyone knows how I feel about City and how well they treated me there,” reminisced Sergio Aguero on his initial days in Europe.

“I will leave with my head held high. I don’t know what awaits me in the next part of my life. But I know I have people who love me. I will always remember the amazing things.”

Sergio Aguero scored a mammoth number of 385 goals in 685 goals during his gigantic career and will go down as one of the best strikers in modern history.
