“So Wise” Why Florentino Perez was right not to sign Cristiano Ronaldo back to Real Madrid?

“So Wise” Why Florentino Perez was right not to sign Cristiano Ronaldo back to Real Madrid?

When Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave Juventus at the start of the summer transfer window of 2021, three clubs were linked with him. Those were Paris St Germain, Manchester City and Real Madrid. However, due to a strained relationship with Florentino Perez, Real Madrid was out of choice. In football, nothing is impossible and everyone expected him to return to Santiago Bernabeu.

Florentino Perez on Cristiano Ronaldo:

Florentino Perez once said:

These are guys with a terrible ego, both spoiled, the coach and him, and they don’t see reality. This guy is an idiot, a sick man. You think this guy is normal, but he’s not normal, otherwise, he wouldn’t do all the things he does.

Despite all the rumors, Florentino Perez decided not to sign the Portuguese talisman though he had one of the lowest transfer fees. The 36-year-old has a huge non-football and commercial value. Manchester United recouped the fee that they spent on him within a day due to huge merchandise sales.

The Portuguese has come under a lot of criticism after Manchester United’s loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford after 40 years. The question also raises that was Perez right not to sign Ronaldo back for Real Madrid?

Is Cristiano Ronaldo the root cause for all problems at Old Trafford?

Ever since his arrival at Old Trafford, several things have happened at Manchester United. In his first game in his second stint for MUFC, he scored two goals and gained the headlines. His stature grew but the team went downhill. The same team which had the second highest numbers in the league with a young attack found themselves struggling to score the goal. The manager, Ole Gunnar Solskajer, got sacked after the team failed to play as a unit.

Manchester United started the campaign as title contenders as they signed Jadon Sancho. However, the dreams shattered soon. With Ronaldo’s arrival, the form of several players have dipped and the best player of Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes finds himself on the bench.

Initially, it was credited to the lack of tactical acumen of Ole but even under Ralf, Red Devils find themselves struggling. Barring tap-ins and some late goals, Ronaldo has nothing left to offer. He has failed to create goals. With age being not on his side, making him run all the 90 minutes makes least sense at the moment.

On the other hand, Real Madrid kept Karim Benzema as their striker and decided to give their youth a run of games. The youngsters like Vinicius Jr have stepped up to the occasion. The team is more fluid in the attack and have the potential to damage any side. Los Blancos find themselves on top of the table on New Year.

The same Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood who grabbed the headlines and scored for fun find themselves in a position where they have lost confidence. The attack that used to happen from left, right and center has stopped and all converges. Though Ronaldo is the best Portuguese at Old Trafford, the club has regressed a lot.

Florentino Perez saw what happened to Juventus ever since Biaconeri signed the five time Ballon d’Or winner. The team lost its identity and went through a series of managerial changes. Now once again, Allegri is back to get the team right. Perez did not make the same mistake but Glazers failed to think about the same.

Perez now has become a genius but do Manchester United and Ralf Rangnick have time to turn the season around?
