“I feel sorry for him”- Thomas Tuchel jumps to Aubameyang’s aid after Arsenal captaincy snub

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel went out of his way to sympathise with his former striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who was recently stripped of his captaincy role at fellow London club, Arsenal. The 32-year old striker came in the firing line for a disciplinary breach and will be kept out of action for the subsequent weeks as punishment from Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta.

Thomas Tuchel is a close confidant of the striker and knows him very well from his two seasons at Borussia Dortmund, which was coincidentally the best in terms of goals scored for the Gabon striker. The German coach felt “sorry” for Aubameyang, and has promised to reach out personally to show him his support.

Thomas Tuchel did not want to judge Arsenal’s method of punishing Aubameyang

Tuchel and Aubameyang were highly successful during their time in Germany

Asked in his pre-match press conference if he would reach out to him, Tuchel said: “I will at some point, but, I don’t want also to disturb. I think that he was a very important player for me, we had a very close relationship, until today.”

“When we meet it’s still always very nice, I can only say the best things about Auba as a player and a person. I feel sorry for him that he’s in trouble, this isn’t where he should be with his kind of quality and the positive character that he has, continued Tuchel in his assessment of Arsenal’s former skipper.

The Chelsea coach also had the presence of mind to not sound too judgy on the issue of another club, and immediately pulled himself away from the discussion on whether the punishment awarded to Aubameyang was justifiable or not.

“And I still believe in this. But I’m not involved, I’m not involved in what’s going on in his club now, and for this, I want to also show my respect and not be involved and judge what is right and wrong. I just have my picture, my relationship with Auba, and this is not affected by that,” Thomas Tuchel finished off in his pre-match press conference before Chelsea’s match against Everton this weekend.
