Tokyo Olympics 2020: Romania Soccer team Preview and squads
The 2020 Olympic games is a few days away from now, and sports fans’ across the world cannot wait for it to start. The men’s football tournament at the games will kick off on the 22nd July and will see the final being played on the 7th of August.
Romania are one of the surprise entrants in the Olympic games and will be playing in their first Olympics since 1964. They have played thrice in the coveted event and have not been able to win the Gold medal even once in their history.
Romania Squad Preview
Romania named their 22-man squad for the games on 1st July, however it was a much weakened squad than the one which helped them secure qualification in 2019. They overcame difficult opponents in France, England and Croatia in the U-21 European Championships to clinch a berth to the games. However, they will be without their younger stars, who have withdrawn from selection citing different reasons.
Manager Radoi elected not to name any overaged players to the Romanian Olympic team. They will feature all U-23 players at the games with Andrei Ciobanu leading the charge for them. The attacking midfielder is one of the most experienced players in the squad and will be one to watch out for in this summer’s games.
