Top 10 Big Money moves from the recently concluded Transfer Window
This year’s summer transfer window was arguably the greatest window of all time. Many stars of the game, like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, switched teams while some could not get their dream transfer, read Kylian Mbappe.
Along with Messi and Ronaldo, superstars such as Sergio Ramos, Antoine Griezmann, Raphael Varane, Sergio Aguero, David Alaba, and EURO 2020 Player of the Tournament, Gigi Donnarumma, all moved teams in the summer, but none of these players are even near the top of the list for the big money transfers! If not them, then who?
Since now the deadline has passed, and there can be no more transfers, let us revisit the top-10 most expensive deals of the summer transfer window, according to Transfermarkt.
10. Emiliano Buendia (Norwich City to Aston Villa, €38.40m)
The Argentine attacker lit up the Championship for Norwich last season and as a reward to it, he got his big money move to Aston Villa, who were in hunt of talismanic players expecting the departure of Jack Grealish.
9. Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig to Liverpool, €40.00m)
Liverpool would be disappointed by their approach in the transfer window as Konate is the only addition to the squad, while there are multiple outgoings. But Liverpool are getting a solid center back in Konate who would be key seeing Liverpool’s scarcity of CBs last season.
8. Tammy Abraham (Chelsea to Roma, €40.00m)
A quintessential Jose Mourinho signing, as this deal worked for all the parties involved. Mourinho wanted a prolific striker, and Chelsea wanted to make room for the incoming Lukaku, therefore letting the 23-year-old leave for Italy.
7. Raphael Varane (Real Madrid to Manchester United, €40.00m)
Definitely a bargain for United, as they are not only getting a reliable defender at the back, but are also getting a Champion who knows how to win trophies. Varane came for cheap, regardless of his market value, as his contract with Real Madrid was expiring before the next transfer window.
6. Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich, €42.50m)
Bayern Munich went shopping at Leipzig this summer, as all their notable acquisitions were from the runners up of the previous season. But Upamecano rightly fills the void created by Boateng’s departure, and could be a massive player in the years to come.
5. Ben White (Brighton to Arsenal, €58.50m)
Many would frown upon the price tag of Ben White, but the signing could be massive for Arsenal and their English core in the coming years. His versatility coupled with his ball playing ability could rejuvenate the Arsenal defense.
4. Achraf Hakimi (Inter to Paris Saint Germain, €60.00)
At just 22 years of age, Achraf Hakimi is on the move for the fourth time, and that too in fourth different league. After spells at Real Madrid, Dortmund and most recently Inter, Hakimi has joined the star-studded PSG to solve their long running right back problems.
3. Jadon Sancho (Dortmund to Manchester United, €85.00m)
The Jadon Sancho transfer saga has finally ended. Manchester United were chasing the prolific winger’s signature since 2019. Last summer, a deal was very close but collapsed towards the end. But this season, he finally has his move in what is a 10/10 window for United.
2. Romelu Lukaku (Inter to Chelsea, €115.00m)
The UCL Champions Chelsea desperately needed a striker to complete the jigsaw after Werner failed to make the mark he was expected to. And who could have been better than the Serie A MVP last season, and former Blue, Lukaku, who would be roaring for more PL goals to his name.
1. Jack Grealish (Aston Villa to Manchester City, €117.50m)
A superstar and statement signing from Man City’s side as they look to build on an already rich English core. Man City obviously would have liked to sign Kane along with, but Pep decided that he needed a talisman with De Bruyne to create magic. Grealish got the No.10 kit at City, which speaks a lot about the signing.
