Diogo Jota missed a sitter of a chance early on in the second half, as Liverpool laboured their way to a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers finally scoring in the 95th minute of the match through their saviour Divock Origi. The victory took the Reds to the top of the Premier League table, at least for the time being until Manchester City are able to get a victory in their match later on in the day.
Although the 1-0 scoreline does not tell you a lot about Liverpool’s attacking instincts throughout the match, Jurgen Klopp’s side were almost made to rue for their gigantic misses early on in the game, as three points looked to slip out of their hands and a place at the top of the table.
Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of a final minute winner against Wolves
The most memorable miss of the match and probably of the season came from Portuguese forward Diogo Jota, who is otherwise very clinical in front of goal. However, it wasn’t his night today after he failed to score in an empty net and struck his shot into the Wolves’ defenders who had gone on the line to cover up for Jose Sa.
The Wolves keeper made a horrific error as he went out of his penalty box to clear a ball, and Jota did brilliantly to keep it with him and ran towards the goal, looking in all certainty to score the first goal of the match. What he didn’t realise was the fact that two other Wolves defenders had also anticipated the move and stood on the line in a final attempt to keep him out, and Diogo Jota did just that, hitting his striker against Conor Coady, one of the defenders on the line.
Twitter did not let go of the opportunity to troll the striker for his dreadful miss and some even termed it as the “miss of the season.”
