Twitter Reacts to Steven Gerrard’s appointment as Aston Villa manager

Aston Villa have finally named Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager, after the dismissal of Dean Smith this weekend. Gerrard has come into the Premier League for the first time in his managerial career and it will be a huge step up in terms of challenges for the former Liverpool midfielder.

Steven Gerrard signed a three and a half year contract with Aston Villa, which will keep him at the club till 2025 after ending his stay prematurely at Scottish club Rangers. The 41-year old revolutionised Rangers during his stay at the club, winning the Scottish Premiership last year, ending the club’s 9-year drought.

“In my conversations with [co-owners] Nassef [Sawiris], Wes [Edens] and the rest of the board, it was apparent how ambitious their plans are for the club and I am looking forward to helping them achieve their aims.”

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers FC continued their hot streak from the last season and are currently the table toppers in Scotland with 30 points from the first 13 games, 4 points ahead of their rivals Celtic.

Aston Villa have had to pay a compensation fee of £4.5m to Rangers FC after roping in their manager at the middle of the season.
