England defender Tyrone Mings a potential candidate for the Prime Minister’s role in the future?

England’s current defender, Tyrone Mings is known to have a voice of his own apart from being the great defender he is and now the 28-year old is keen to make his voice heard even further as he eyes a job as his country’s Prime Minister after finishing his career as a footballer.

Tyrone Mings was one of the key men in the national side to advocate the taking of the knee, to show their support to the Black Lives Matter movement in this year’s EURO 2020, a move which was criticised by most politicians in England at the time.

“A lot of people don’t want us to go into politics,” Tyrone Mings

In an interview with Goal, Tyrone Mings said, “I might try to be Prime Minister.

“I am fairly open because retirement isn’t something that worries me,” he adds. “I don’t feel like I have to be shoehorned into a coaching role because it is all I know.

“It excites me thinking about what could come up post-football, but I am definitely not there yet.”

However, he stayed true to his belief and continued to speak up for all of his teammates continuously in the front of the media. Mings was also critical of England’s Home Secretary, Priti Patel accusing her of “stoking the fires” after their defeat in the finals of the EURO 2020.

“A lot of people don’t want us to go into politics too deeply,” Mings continued in his interview with Goal.

“I get that people want football to be escapism and keep politics and sport removed from each other, but it will never be the case.

“There were difficult conversations before the tournament about not taking the knee, attitudes towards the players or a lack of support. That stuff maybe gave us more drive but it certainly brought the England players together.”
