Watch: ‘Outraged’ Jurgen Klopp has a talk with the referees about Andrew Robertson’s Controversial red card against Spurs

After a thrilling encounter with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool FC lost points once again in the ongoing Premier League season, providing Manchester City to further extend their lead at the top of the points table. The exciting end to end match concluded in a 2-2 draw but was unfortunately marred with controversy.

It was Tottenham Hotspur who took the lead through their ace striker Harry Kane who rose up to the occasion of the high intensity match despite himself having a rough patch this season. Liverpool, however, were quick enough to equalise through their in-form Portuguese targetman Diogo Jota.

The reds, who were undoubtedly the better side throughout last night’s match even took the lead in the 69th minute through their Scottish left back Andrew Robertson but even that was nullified just 5 minutes later by a thunderous strike by Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, their saviour Andrew Robertson who gave them the lead moments earlier, became the villain shortly after receiving the marching orders in the 77th minute. His rough tackle on Emerson wherein he went lunging into the full back got ignored by the referee initially but the VAR turned it around after a recheck and the Left back was shown a red card.

This fully turned the table around and Liverpool, who were so far dominating the match in almost every aspect, had to park in low blocks, mainly defending Tottenham’s movements.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was seemingly very upset with Andrew Robertson being shown the red card as many think it was a ‘bit too harsh’ on the Scottish left back. The German gaffer openly expressed his frustration towards the referees after the match was over as he went to have a chat with them and it did not look like they were exchanging pleasantries. He shook the referee’s hand and then went on to talk about the red card. The referee, however, did not give a response.

With this draw, Liverpool are now a full three points behind Manchester City on the Premier League table.
