Wayne Rooney is doing a fantastic job in his first ever managerial stint at Championship club Derby County. The former England international has been one of the most talked about person in English football and has won the hearts of many football fans.
The Manchester United legend has shown his commitment towards Derby County as he looks to save them from relegation and pull off one of the greatest managerial escapes in world football ever. Rooney stepped in at Derby County after the sacking of Philip Cocu and was handed the job on a permanent basis.
It was not what he was expecting at first as he has to go above and beyond on and off the pitch to save the club from extinction as they try to find new owners before the end of the month. The poor financial shape of the club has seen the club heading into administration and dissolution.
Wayne Rooney has been nothing short of brilliant since his appointment as he lost the least number of games and has to let many important players from the team go on a free transfer as well. The former England international has had to rely on youth a lot and is getting the results as well.

The former England international has been nothing but brilliant ever since his appointment as the manager of Derby County last year. It has not been an easy ride for Rooney as he has had to manage the club on and off the pitch as well.
Derby County is heading towards administration and because of that, the club was given a 21 point deduction by the EFL. This left Rooney’s team at the bottom of the league. However, the club has fought against the odds and are now just 7 points from safety with more than 17 games to go in the season.
Rooney had been approached by his former club Everton last week for the manager’s job after the Blues confirmed the sacking of Rafa Benitez. However, it was then reported that Rooney had turned down the opportunity for the job as he was more committed to ensure Derby County’s safety.
Rooney released a statement saying,” Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the job. I turned it down. I believe I will be a Premier League manager and I am ready for that 100%. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me.”
The dedication shown by Wayne Rooney towards Derby County has been nothing short of amazing. It was reported that Rooney got the news from Sky Sports that Derby County was going into administration. The owner Mel Morris did not even the former England international personally about the shocking news.
It was also reported that Rooney gave his personal contact number to the Derby County faithful which the official supporters club of the Rams confirmed. Rumours of the club going into administration caused panic in Coleen Rooney as Wayne Rooney’s mental health was not in a good shape.
He also won the hearts of the fans when it was reported that the Manchester United legend paid for training equipments and away accommodations when the club was short of money. Rooney also did overtime multiple times for the club and slept in his office to get the players ready.
Rooney released a statement saying,” I am committed to this football club. I grew up on a council estate in Liverpool. I know how tough life can be. What kind of a person would I be if I went and laid on a beach for a few weeks. I will stand in front of you and I will take the criticism.”
Wayne Rooney has been dubbed as the “Guardian Angel” by the Derby County faithful. The players have also said that the former England international has kept 3 league tables in the dressing room, the original one, the one with no points deduction and one with -12 points deduction to motivate the squad.
