“We’re better than this”- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends a special message to players before getting the sack

It is not unknown that every Manchester United fan avidly wanted head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be relieved of his duties. Their performance has been downright poor in the Premier League this season and the world knows that Ole’s methods were flawed and that it was only a matter of time before he was sacked. However, now that the club has finally parted ways with the Norwegian, it is an immensely emotional moment both for the fans and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Man United fans might hate Ole the manager but boy did they love Ole the Baby faced assassin, the player who had won Manchester United their second UEFA Champions League title. Coming on as substitute in the 1998-99 Champions League final between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, the then 26-year old Ole scored a 90+3’ winner in the dying minutes of the game to seal the match for the Red Devils, thus inscribing his name in the history books of Man United.
He might have failed to win a trophy with Man United as a manager, but as a player he was a key part of six of their Premier League winning campaigns and was a prolific striker himself. He scored 92 goals and provided 36 assists in the 235 appearances that he made for the Red Devils.
It is thus heartbreaking that a club legend like him has to depart in such lacklustre fashion. In an interview that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave to MUTV before being discharged of his duties, the gaffer broke down in tears after letting his heart out and since then the Red Devils fans are mourning over his sad departure all-over social media.
Being Trophyless as a manager
“I wanted us to take the next step to challenge for the league, to win trophies,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. “I want to get it out there, I’m going to leave by the front door, because I think everyone knows I’ve given everything for this club.”
“This club means everything to me and together we’re a good match, but unfortunately I couldn’t get the results we needed and it’s time for me to step aside.
“I’m so honoured and privileged to have been trusted to take the club forward, and I really hope that I leave it in a better state than when I came.
“The board and the owners have backed me in [terms of] bringing good people in, good players in and I think, or I know, I leave this club with a better squad.
“The environment is fantastic, it’s an environment I’m proud of leaving because you have to enjoy coming in here working. I think there is potential in this club. We all love the club, and we all want to see it continue.”
What’s next for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
It is however unknown whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will return to coaching after this and many reports claim that the Norwegian has considered taking a long break.
Speaking about his future, the manager said “I’ll spend some time with my family. That’s been probably the most difficult part, through the pandemic, with Norway being open and here being closed, my family moved back to Norway and the young one, he loves it back there, so we’ve lived apart. So, I’ll spend some time with them.
“Then, I’ll watch the team of course and hopefully, the next manager comes in and I want to support him. I want him to be successful, hopefully I’ve laid the foundations for that to happen because I know I’m good at what I’m doing.
“I’m 100 percent sure to create a football environment, that’s where I’m good at and at some point, I’ll probably be back [working in football].”
Last message for the players
Ole ended his speech with a heartfelt message for the players.
“As I’ve said to them this morning as well, trust yourselves, you know we’re better than this,” he said.
“We’ve not been able to show it but go out, chest out, enjoy being a Man United player, in the Champions League, on the biggest stage.
“If and when you win the game, you’re through to the next round, Michael [Carrick] is going to be in charge. Michael, I have the utmost respect [for], I love Michael to bits.
“I’m becoming emotional now because he’s top. They’ll be fine. I’ll watch them and support them, ” he concluded.
