“West Ham supporters can be reassured that we were..”- David Moyes assures supporters on the club’s transfer market efforts

David Moyes’ West Ham has had a very quiet transfer window since none of their singing attempts could materialise. Be it Jesse Lingard from Manchester United, or the last-ditch effort to sign striker Duvan Zapata from Atalanta.

The anger among the West Ham supporters is noticeable as fans took to Twitter claiming owners David Gold and David Sullivan are throwing away a golden chance to reach the Champions League. However, the West Ham manager David Moyes did assure the fans that the club has tried to secure their transfer targets.

He said, “It wasn’t for the want of trying, that’s for sure.

“West Ham supporters can be reassured that we were really ambitious in what we were trying to do. We were really ambitious in trying to get good players and players who could help us and make a difference, but it just became pretty difficult in the end and we missed out on one or two late on.

“I didn’t necessarily want to be in the situation where we were bringing players in just because we kept getting it said: ‘You need to buy a striker’. We’ve also got Jarrod Bowen and it would be very difficult to get a better back-up to Micky Antonio than Jarrod.”

“I want to make sure that the supporters at West Ham can trust that I’m trying to spend the money wisely and we’re trying to bring in good players but also, we don’t want to bring people in who I think are only here just to pad it up.

‘”The idea in this job is to try and sign good players.”

Further talking about the transfer targets for the summer, David Moyes said that it will not be right to name the players but has asked the fans to be patient about it.

He said, “I’d never tell you my targets because that would be wrong, but what I do want to do is be ambitious here at West Ham, bring in good players and add to the really good squad we’ve got at the moment. Sometimes, getting things you actually want, you have to wait a little bit longer.”
