Hannah Dingley is a Welsh football manager. She is currently the caretaker manager of the Forest Green Rovers men’s team. The 39-year-old made history by joining the fourth-tier side, becoming the first woman to be appointed as the manager of a men’s senior football team in the United Kingdom.

Dingley started her career back in 2011. After being appointed as the manager of the men’s team, Dingley said, “I’ve coached men for 20-odd years. This isn’t different to me and I’ve never had a problem with players. They just want good coaching and a good program.”

The owner of Forest Green,  Dale Vince also commented on Dingley’s appointment. He said, “It was a very simple decision. Hannah was the most qualified person at the club for the job. Hannah Dingley is a Welsh football manager. She is currently the caretaker manager of EFL League Two club Forest Green Rovers. In July 2023, Dingley became the first woman in charge of a professional men’s team in English football. Dingley is also a UEFA Pro License holder.

Dingley was born and brought up in Carmarthenshire, which is in southwest Wales. From a very young age, she was very passionate about football. It reportedly was a strong part of her family culture as well. As her school did not have a girls’ football team, so she played for the local boys’ club. Dingley attended Loughborough University. She has coached teams there too. Her coaching stint at the university included boys’ university teams and men’s non-league football teams.

Dingley started her professional career as a coach in 2011. She was on the Notts County under-9 boys team. She was also managing the Lincoln Ladies team. But eventually, she was informed that she could only head one of the two teams. So she reportedly chose to work with the ladies’ team. This choice was said to be because of the fact that the team had international players.

From 2016 to 2019, she was a coach of the senior men’s team of Burton Albion. In 2019, the Welsh manager was appointed as an academy manager at Forest Green Rovers. This made her the first woman to coach a men’s academy team in England. In 2021, Dingley reportedly launched a girls’ academy for the club. Dingley was appointed as the caretaker manager of Forest Green after they sacked Duncan Ferguson from the post on July 4, 2023. This made Dingley the first woman to take charge of a men’s senior professional football team in England.
