Javier Tebas Medrano is a Spanish lawyer. One of the most influential leaders in world football, he is the president of Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional, also known as La Liga. In December 2019, he was re-elected for a third term until 2024.
His expertise in business, sports and bankruptcy law was decisive in advising and representing numerous football clubs throughout his career and in creating a law firm specializing in the world of sports.
Tebas has been a loud critic of the European Super League. He has been against the idea of the Super League from the beginning. After Real Madrid’s win in the UEFA Champions League, Tebas said that he is a fan of Los Blancos. He has also crucified English club Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for “ruining football”. One of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid is also a part of the Super League project.
However, after criticising BArcelona’s involvement in the Negreira scandal, Tebas said earlier in March that Lionel Messi should come back to Camp Nou. The Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry skyrocketed the revenue of La Liga. Ronaldo later left to join Serie A giants Juventus and Manchester United and then left European football altogether to join Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
