Harry Kane to Manchester City: Why Kane is perfect for Manchester City? A marriage made in heaven?

Harry Kane to Manchester City: Why Kane is perfect for Manchester City? A marriage made in heaven?

The defeat against Chelsea in the Champions League has emphasized the need for a striker for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. Manchester City failed to win the game as they lacked the focal point in the game. Sergio Aguero came on late in the game but it was failed approach. With strikers like Harry Kane and Erling Haaland available in the transfer market, Pep Guardiola will look to spend and sign any of the strikers.

Previously, before the summer transfer window, Kane spoke to Gary Neville about his career aspirations. He mentioned that he wants to win titles apart from personal trophies. He also mentioned his desire to play alongside the best playmakers. He said:

For me, I don’t want to come to the end of my career and have any regrets so I want to be the best that I can be. I’ve said before, I never say I’d stay at Spurs for the rest of my career… I’d never say I’d leave Spurs. I’m at that stage where you can say you know, people may say 'oh he’s desperate for trophies, he needs the trophies

Why Harry Kane is a perfect fit for Manchester City?

Harry Kane looks to leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window. Will he be the perfect fit for Manchester City?

Manchester City are in dire need to replace Sergio Aguero who has left the club on a free transfer. After serving the club for a decade, the talisman joined Barcelona on a Bosman transfer. The Blue side of Manchester has to find a reliable striker who can find the back of the net easily. Harry Kane fits the bill in this scenario for Pep Guardiola.

In Premier League 2020/21, Kane scored 23 goals in the English Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur. Though he won the most coveted “Golden Boot”, there was no team title that he is desiring to fulfill. In five Europa League games, the player has 5 G/A as well. On the other hand, Cityzens struggled to score the goals in the absence of Sergio Aguero who was not match-fit for most of the season.

Though Harry Kane played as an out-and-out striker for most of his career, he dropped deep to create the chances as well in the English Premier League. He has 14 assists to his name, creating a nightmare for the opposition even if he is not in the opposition half. His ability to pick the player from his own half is under-rated. Signing Kane would also reduce the burden on Kevin de Bruyne, who is considered as the feeder and provider for Pep Guardiola’s side.

In the Premier League 2019/20, Harry Kane had 0.08 xA statistic to his name whereas he had 0.22 xA per 90 in the 2020/21 season. On the other hand, Pep Guardiola played Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling who had 0.17 xA per 90 in the English top-flight.

It will not be one-way traffic. Harry Kane can also get benefitted if he joins Manchester City. He will not only have a playmaker like Kevin de Bruyne behind him, but he will also have Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling who can whip the crosses. Kane’s aerial threat can perfectly be used by Pep Guardiola.

The only question that remains after the discussion is what is the right price? Will Manchester City shell the huge amount for the English skipper?
