Wrexham Association Football Club is a Welsh professional football club based in Wrexham, Wales. The team was competing in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football league system and gained promotion to the National League in 2023. It was formed in 1864. It is the oldest club in Wales. And it’s the third oldest professional association football team in the world.

In November 2020, Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and American actor Rob McElhenney became the owners of the club. Shortly after the change in ownership, the club was included in FIFA 22. This saw them becoming the first non-league team to be featured in the series. In the season of 2021–22, Wrexham finished second before losing the play-off semi-final 5–4 to Grimsby Town after extra time. Wrexham also reached the 2022 FA Trophy Final which they lost 1–0 to Bromley.

During the 2022-23 season, the team progressed to the fourth round in the 2022–23 FA Cup, beating Coventry City in the third round. But they were eventually knocked out by Sheffield United in a replay. The first game between Sheffield United and Wrexham was ESPN’s most followed football game across its digital platforms. Wrexham vied with Notts County throughout the season to lead the league, trading the first spot back and forth.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds currently own the Welsh Club Wrexham AFC. Ryan Reynolds was born on October 23, 1976, in Vancouver. He is the youngest of four siblings. Reynolds’s father, James Chester Reynolds, was a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman. His mother, Tamara Lee worked in retail sales. Reynolds’s biggest success came with his role in Deadpool and Deadpool 2. His performance helped him earn nominations at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. In 2010, he was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive. And in 2017, Ryan was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As a businessman, Ryan reportedly holds an ownership stake in Mint Mobile. In 2020, according to reports, Reynolds sold his ownership stake in Aviation Gin to Diageo for $610 million. Reynolds also sits on the board of the Match Group.

Robert McElhenney is an American actor, producer, writer, and podcaster. Robert is best known for his role as Ronald “Mac” McDonald on the FX/FXX comedy series. He continued to serve as an executive producer and writer. Robert is also known for playing Ian Grimm in the comedy series Mythic Quest. In September 2020, McElhenney became the co-owner of Wrexham A.F.C. with Ryan Reynolds.
