It’s been more than three months since Carlos Alcaraz suffered a wrist injury, but there’s no report as to the extent of the injury. There has been no information on when he will return to the court, and he has not conducted any interviews since then. This has led former World No.7 Corrado Barazzutti to label the injury a mystery, stressing it is hard to understand.
Alcaraz was playing against Otto Virtanen at the Barcelona Open in April when he twisted his arm while trying to win a point. He called for a medical timeout and returned to the court, beating the Finnish star in straight sets. But the following day, his wrist felt different, which prompted him to undergo a test.
Following the test results, he withdrew from the tournament and the Madrid Open. He subsequently pulled out of the French Open, Queen’s Club Championships, and the Wimbledon Championships. However, there has been no report from any of his team about the injury or what the wrist problem is.
Rather, Alcaraz has made some social media posts, revealing his improvement on the training court. At first, he was seen playing tennis with his left hand, but reports from Spanish publications have revealed that he has begun light training with his right hand.
Also, the Cincinnati Open released its entry list, and Alcaraz was number three, marking his return to a tournament he has not lost since the Madrid Open. However, with not much detail about the extent of the Spaniard’s injury or when he will return to the court, former ATP player Barazzutti on Tennis World USA questioned the authenticity of the injury, claiming it has been hard to understand:
It’s become a mystery. He plays in Monte Carlo and loses to Sinner.hen he goes to Barcelona, wins his first match, and withdraws the next day… At least as far as I’m concerned, I’d never heard anything about this problem. I’m not a journalist, so maybe you were better informed, but personally, I’d never had any indication that he had a wrist problem or that he was injured. That’s why I find it hard to understand.
Alcaraz has also been listed on the US Open entry list. The former World No.1 won the Grand Slam championship last year after beating Jannik Sinner in the final. In Alcaraz’s absence, Sinner has flourished on the court, winning six of the seven tournaments he has competed in, including Wimbledon.
Corrado Barazzutti says Carlos Alcaraz’s wrist injury seems serious
Carlos Alcaraz was spotted at the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain on Sunday (July 19). The seven-time Grand Slam winner carried and unveiled the World Cup trophy during the pre-match pitch ceremony at MetLife Stadium alongside South Korean actress Hoyeon. He also spent time with the Spanish players during their celebration following their 1-0 victory over Argentina.

But Alcaraz had a bandage on his right wrist while performing the task and celebrating. The bandage suggests that the former Wimbledon champion is still nursing an injury on his wrist. During the aforementioned interview, Corrado Barazzutti admitted that Alcaraz’s injury seems obviously serious:
I don’t know exactly what the problem is, but it must obviously be something serious, given that even today there’s still no concrete talk of his return. The wrist, after all, is a very delicate part of the body for a tennis player. I really don’t know what to say. But, at least based on what’s been made public, we know practically nothing.
Alcaraz won two titles before the injury. He won the Australian Open in January after beating Novak Djokovic in four sets and claimed his second consecutive championship of the season at the Qatar Open. His arch-rival Jannik Sinner has already won six titles and will be seeking his seventh at the North American hard-court swing.
