Michael Vaughan appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, ‘The Ranveer Show’, and claimed the Champions Trophy is not a real trophy. He made this statement while discussing India’s lack of trophies. 

Michael Vaughan spoke about India’s records in International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments, and claimed the Indian team need to win more, especially with the amount of talent in the country. When mentioning the Champions Trophy, he claimed it isn’t a real trophy.

India should win a lot more trophies. 2013 was the last trophy India won, right? ICC Champions Trophy? That's not a trophy really. There is the World Cup and the World Test Championship now, India lost both the finals there. There is so much talent in this country.

India’s last ICC Trophy triumph came in 2013, when they beat England in the finals. MS Dhoni was the captain then and is the only captain to win every ICC trophy. Since then they have failed to win a single ICC Trophy. They finished as runner ups in the 2014 T20 WC, 2017 Champions Trophy and 2023 World Cup, their best results since 2013.

Michael Vaughan and Ranveer Allabadia spoke about India’s chances in the upcoming 2024 T20 WC, which will be played in the US and West Indies. According to the former England captain, India’s chances of winning the tournament will be high if they have Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant.

I don’t think they (India) will (win) unless they have a Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant playing well. For India to win the T20 World Cup, Rishabh has to play.

Pandya has not had a good time so far in the IPL, struggling with bat and ball. In his recent outing for MI, he was smacked for three consecutive sixes by MS Dhoni.
