Spanish forward Aridane Santana had a successful two year stint in the Hero Indian Super League, playing crucial roles for both Odisha FC and then Hyderabad FC.
Santana established himself as one of the dangerous target man in the League and a brilliant finisher, often dominating and terrorising defenders using his physicality and aerial prowess.
Santana played a total of 32 games across his two seasons in the HERO ISL. During his first spell with franchise Odisha FC, Santana was heavily involved as he scored nine goals and provided two assists in his 14 appearances.
Santana signed for Hyderabad FC the following season and played a huge role in transforming their fortunes, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in his 18 appearances for the Nizams.
Santana bagged a total of 19 goals and four assists in the 2741 minutes of football he played in the Indian Super League, largely impressing the critics, often dragging his teams from the toughest of situations.
Santana has left India for a new challenge and will be representing UD Logrones in the Primera Division R.F.E.F, as he would aim to guide the team back to the second tier of Spanish league football.
Alongside experience in the Thai league and the Indian league, Santana has also played for Spanish clubs like RC Deportivo, Real Zaragoza, CD Leganés, CD Tenerife, CD Mirandés, Albacete and Cultural Deportiva Leonesa earlier, so gelling in UD Logrones team wouldn’t be much of a problem for him.
Hyderabad FC have already roped in former Mumbai City FC star striker Bartholomew Ogbeche ahead of the 2021-22 season, following the departure of Santana. Nigerian Ogbeche brings quite a different set of skills to the table and is more aggressive and a player with a better skill set but far less physical, and it would be to see whether filling Aridane’s shoes would be a challenging task for him.
