Former Italian tennis player Guido Monaco has questioned Novak Djokovic‘s decision to skip the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin next month. The Serbian, a seven-time champion at the event, is currently the title holder.

Monaco believes that Djokovic’s absence from the ATP Finals will have a significant impact from a sponsorship perspective. The Italian suggests that any other player in Djokovic’s position would have traveled to Turin after securing qualification.

The general feeling is that Djokovic is not going to Turin even though it would be strange if he did not go to the Masters. Many people would do anything to go. For him, it is logical that he does not go even if I am perplexed from the sponsors’ point of view: it is a showcase and many bonuses are linked to participation

Guido Monaco said as reported by OA Sport

Djokovic’s priorities seem to have shifted since winning the Olympic gold medal in August. The Belgrade native defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final to complete his trophy collection.

However, Djokovic has participated in only two events on the tour since that historic win. While he was present at the Six Kings Slam, he has missed three of the last four Masters 1000 events.

Novak Djokovic’s ranking predicted at Australian Open 2025

Novak Djokovic has spent much of the last decade at the top of the tennis rankings, but his reign as world No. 1 is now over. The Serbian star has seen his position challenged by a new generation of talent.

Last year, Djokovic finished as the ATP’s top-ranked player, claiming titles at both the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals. He also won three out of the four Grand Slam titles, showing he could still fend off younger rivals.

But 2024 has been a different story, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz each winning two Grand Slam titles. Djokovic’s only major victory this year came at the Olympic Games in Paris, and he has admitted to struggling with motivation for smaller tournaments.

By skipping the Paris Masters, Djokovic will lose the 1,000 points he earned there last year. If he decides to miss the ATP Finals as well, he could drop to seventh, eighth, or even ninth in the rankings, making his path to the 2025 Australian Open more difficult.
