Feliciano Lopez praised Jannik Sinner’s 2024 season, calling it “beyond all logic.” He admired Sinner’s consistency and ability to maintain high standards throughout the year. The left-hander also shared his predictions for how many Grand Slam titles Sinner might win in his career.

Sinner claimed his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. In the final, he made an incredible comeback from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev. Earlier in the tournament, he overcame defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. He followed this by winning the US Open in September, beating Taylor Fritz in straight sets. Sinner lost only two sets during his dominant run in New York.

This year he has had a season beyond all logic, winning an unreal number of matches and, above all, losing only six over the course of the season. There is no doubt, he deserves to be number 1 in the world. If there’s one thing more impressive than the intensity of his tennis, it’s his ability to keep the bar high. Everyone else has their ups and downs, but he doesn’t.

Feliciano Lopez said on Corriere dello Sport

At just 23 years old, Sinner became the youngest player to win both hard-court Grand Slams in the same year. He also had strong performances at other majors, reaching the semi-finals at the French Open and the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. He lost to Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev in those tournaments, respectively.

If I think about it, two years ago he was a different player and today he still wants to improve, so I imagine how he could play if he continued like this. It’s hard to say. I’m often asked about Alcaraz. He’ll definitely be in double figures, let’s say 14.

Feliciano Lopez added

Sinner ended the year by helping Italy defend their Davis Cup title in Malaga. He won all three of his singles matches in straight sets and played a key role in a crucial doubles victory during the quarter-finals. It was a fitting conclusion to an extraordinary season.

Jasmine Paolini and Jannik Sinner make Italy a tennis fortress

Jannik Sinner and Jasmine Paolini led the way in this remarkable season. Sinner had an extraordinary year, playing 79 matches and losing only six. He won eight titles, including the Australian Open and the US Open, becoming the first Italian man since 1976 to win a Grand Slam and the first to claim titles in both Melbourne and New York.

Sinner also made history by becoming the first Italian to reach world No. 1 in singles rankings, holding the position for 24 weeks by the end of the year. He capped off his season with a victory at the ATP Finals in Turin and helped Italy retain the Davis Cup title in Malaga.

Despite his incredible achievements, Sinner’s year had its challenges. Two failed drug tests from March, revealed in August, brought some controversy. Yet, with a 92.4% win rate, his performance on the court remains one of the most impressive in tennis history.
