Former French Open champion Adriano Panatta has praised World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and his mentality. The former World No. 4 did not discuss the Italian’s doping ban in detail but believes that Sinner is innocent.
Panatta has complimented Sinner’s mindset, comparing it to that of Rafael Nadal and Bjorn Borg. The 23-year-old is expected to return to action in May when his three-month suspension ends.
Sinner is an absolute champion, he plays tennis perfectly. Mentally he is the strongest of all, I put him on the same level as Nadal, Djokovic and Borg. He will undoubtedly make history in tennis. His suspension? There is no doubt that Jannik is completely innocent. As I have said in the past, he is the only one who is guilty without having committed the act. I do not think much of WADA, my thoughts are not favourable towards them.
Adriano Panatta said in an interview (H/T: Tennis365)
Sinner’s suspension will cause him to miss the later part of the hard-court season and the beginning of the clay-court season. As a result, he will not compete in the Miami Open, where he was the defending champion after defeating Grigor Dimitrov in last year’s final.
Sinner is expected to make his comeback at the Rome Masters, held in his home country. The Italian could not participate in last year’s event due to a hip injury that affected his entire clay-court season.
Jannik Sinner joins elite list and moves closer to Rafael Nadal’s record
Jannik Sinner reached a big milestone in his tennis career. The 23-year-old has now spent 40 weeks as the ATP world number one. This achievement puts him at a level with tennis great Ilie Nastase. Sinner is also getting closer to Andy Murray‘s record.

Spending 40 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings is not easy. Sinner’s talent and hard work have helped him reach this point. This achievement is even more special because it is his first time as world number one.
Sinner is now part of an elite group of players. This group includes Roger Federer, Jimmy Connors, Lleyton Hewitt, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Murray, and Nastase. Joining these legends is a big honor for Sinner.
Sinner’s lead is not safe yet. Alexander Zverev could still pass him by the end of April. But if the German does not, Sinner could move closer to Nadal’s record. Sinner is expected to be back in action in May.
