Former World No. 7 and Italian tennis player Corrado Barazzutti has spoken highly of his countryman and the sport’s current biggest asset, Jannik Sinner. The World No. 1 has amazed everyone with his extraordinary tennis skills, moving to the top of the world rankings.
The comparisons are there and will always be, but Barazzutti believes that Sinner is currently playing at the level of the “Big 3” (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic). Sinner currently holds three Grand Slam titles and four Masters 1000 titles.
For now, he is an alien. He is not good, he is great! He plays at the level of a young Djokovic, a young Nadal, a young Federer. The problem is that the other players are not at his level. Alcaraz, when he plays well, is the only one who can compete with Sinner, who has no ups and downs, that is his strength. He wins even when he does not play well. He plays the best tennis in the world.
Corrado Barazzutti said on La Nacion
Sinner has begun the 2025 season in a similar fashion to how he played for most of the 2024 season. The 23-year-old defended his Australian Open title and hopes to continue his success with the clay and grass seasons approaching.
Medvedev and Tsitsipas do not play very well anymore. We are waiting for Rune, he is young. Djokovic is disappearing. The young players who can get closer are Musetti, Rune, Shelton, the Czechs Mensik and Machac, the Brazilian Fonseca; these are the new players who will take the place of Tsitsipas, Rublev, Medvedev, Ruud. We will see if the youngsters reach Sinner’s level, otherwise Jannik will win by… He has a very strong mentality.
Corrado Barazzutti added
Sinner has not lost an official match since the China Open final against Carlos Alcaraz. Surprisingly, the Spaniard is the only player Sinner has failed to beat since the start of the 2024 season.
Jannik Sinner sets sights on Doha after Australian Open
Jannik Sinner is enjoying his 36th week as the world’s top-ranked player. The 23-year-old started the year in great form, defending his Australian Open title and winning his third Grand Slam. After skipping the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam, he took a break in Italy before heading to Monte Carlo for training. He is now preparing for his next tournament in Doha.

Sinner is aiming for his second title of the season at the ATP 500 event. He will face strong opponents, including Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Last year, he finished the season ranked world No. 4 after winning his first Grand Slam in Melbourne. That victory included wins over Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.
In 2024, Sinner has been in excellent form, winning 73 out of 79 matches. He has secured eight ATP titles and helped Italy defend the Davis Cup. At the Australian Open, he dominated the competition, losing only two sets on his way to the trophy. Despite a health scare in the fourth round, he stayed focused and claimed his third Grand Slam in just five attempts.
In the semi-finals, he defeated Ben Shelton before facing world No. 2 in the final. Sinner played a strong match, winning 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in two hours and 42 minutes. He managed the game well and took home another big title. Now, he enters the Doha tournament as the favorite, but his rivals are determined to challenge him.
