Alexei Popov a Russian journalist is convinced that English experts have an anti-Max Verstappen agenda

Alexei Popov, a Russian journalist believes that the English commentators of Formula1 have an anti-Max Verstappen agenda as he feels they are not very supportive of the Dutchman during the races and Lewis was just as bad as Max when he was young and in slower cars.

It has been stated in Planetf1 that Papov has said”That’s exactly the point of view of English experts, who have been pushing it very gently in the last few races. And before it was not pushed very much. They started preloading Max with this story beforehand.”

He is referring to the fact that when Lewis was doing the same thing in his early days and he was not criticized much and the experts have started doing it more ever since Max has started doing it.

He further pointed to the fact that when Lewis was in a slower car during his time at McLaren, he used to drive excessively hard and when he was asked about it he said Yes, I would prefer to drive differently if I had a super-fast car, and here it is my only chance. Alexei Popov said that same is the case for Max Verstappen today. He’s got the slower car compared to Mercedes and the experts are not considering this while criticizing Max.

During Alexei Popov’s interview, he was very appreciative of Max Verstappen’s behavior as he believes that over the years he has improved his attitude and has become better at controlling his emotions. He says that earlier Max was a bit hot-headed and used to act impatiently.

He further added that he has never been a fan of Max Verstappen’s personality and character but during the 2021 season Max has been able to change his opinion regarding him. He believes that Max’s changed persona is very evident in his post-race interviews and team radio conversations.

He is though not sure if it is because of Kelly Piquet, his girlfriend, or something suddenly has changed in Max which has forced him to change the way he used to act in previous seasons.
