The Estone based Alpine Formula1 team has got a very special situation in the view of their team director Davide Brivio. In his opinion, the chemistry between the two drivers is really good and they get along well with each other on and off the track. They have been supportive of each other throughout the season.
In a recent interview given to Planetf1 Davide Brivio was asked to give a grade to their 2021 season and as a response, he stated “A grade? The season is certainly positive, we can discuss the numbers.” He has been pleased with their performance in the 2021 season given the package they had with the car.
Alpine managed to trump Alpha Tauri to P5 in the constructor’s
The Alpine and the RedBull sister team Alpha Tauri were locked in a battle for 5th position in the championship all season long. It was very evident from the start that Alpha Tauri had the faster car with Pierre Gasly finishing in the top 6 on a regular basis in qualifying. But the Alpine Formula1 team kept plugging and scoring points whenever possible.
In the first half of the season, the Alpine team was behind Alpha Tauri in points but in the last few races of the season, Alpine managed to score big points with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon. At the Qatar Grand Prix, Fernando was able to get on the podium by finishing P3 and in the same race, Esteban came 5th.
In the very next race, Esteban just fell short of a podium as Valtteri Bottas snatched P3 from Esteban in the dying stages of the race. But as far as their battle with Alpha Tauri was concerned it was pretty much done and dusted with Alpine ahead of Alpha Tauri with 29 points going into the last race of the season. After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Alpine’s total points tally was 155 whereas Alpha Tauri was only able to manage 142 points.
The major highlights of the 2021 season for Alpine F1 team
The Alpine team director in his interview gave a special mention to Esteban Ocon for his first-ever podium in Formula1 and stated it as the biggest highlight of their season. He also gave a mention to Fernando Alonso as he also managed to secure his first podium in 7 long years.
The 2021 Formula1 season has been a season of positives for the newly formed Alpine team and going into the next season they would be hoping to fight a bit higher in the table with the lights of Mclaren and Ferrari. Esteban Ocon has previously said that if they get a good package for next season, they are going to be a very dangerous side to go up against.
Given the kind of bonding that Fernando and Esteban share, it certainly won’t be a surprise if we see both of them fighting higher on the grid next season.
