Bahrain GP 2022: When was the last time a Ferrari driver managed to earn a pole position
Charles and Sebastian
The Ferrari F1 team after today’s Qualifying session for the Bahrain Grand Prix has finally ended their drought of earning a pole position in Formula One.
Today the Italian team has managed to achieve its first pole position since 2019 when the then driver Sebastian Vettel got them pole position in the Japanese Grand Prix of 2019.
The Qualifying session for the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix was an all-out brawl between Ferrari and Red Bull in which the top 4 positions were shared between the two teams.
The battle was intense between the four drivers and at the end of the Q3 session of qualifying, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was able to come out trumps in the four-way battle.
Charles was able to do a time of 1.30.558 whereas Max came second for Red Bull by managing a time of 1.30.681.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz secured third with a time of 1.30.687.
Sebastian Vettel’s pole for Ferrari in 2019
Before today, the last time that a Ferrari was able to be in pole position was in 2019 when Sebastian Vettel got them to pole in the Japanese Grand Prix.
During those days Mercedes was the dominant force in F1 and Sebastian Vettel who is now at Aston Martin was able to pull one from the bag and was able to get his team pole in Japan.
On that occasion, Sebastian was able to secure pole position by doing a time of 1.27.064 whereas Charles Leclerc was second for the team on that day by managing 1.27.253. The Maranello-based team was able to lock out the front row.
Ever since then the team was not able to secure pole position as in recent years they were seen struggling in the mid-field pack. But all that has changed now as Charles has just a while ago done what the Ferrari outfit has been trying to do for years.
After last season’s strong showing by the Italian team, it was expected that Ferrari was going to take a step up this season but no one expected them to do it in the season opener of the 2022 season.
After seeing what Charles and Carlos have done, it is very evident that the glory days are not very far away for the blood-red team and that they are going to be title contenders during the 2022 season of F1.
