Charles Leclerc reflects on changed mindset in 2022: “I don’t need to go overboard”
Charles Leclerc
Mattia Binotto predicted after the conclusion of the last season that Charles Leclerc will be the driver to look out for in the upcoming season of 2022. Yes, of course, there were certain performances which showed the bags of talent that he possessed but nothing substantial for us to get really excited about. But, from what have seen in the opening few races, it’ll be safe to say that Ferrari’s team Principal got it spot on.
It’s been the Charles Leclerc show this season around. He has looked a class apart from the rest of the pack and made Max Verstappen look ordinary on his Red Bull, despite the Dutchman coming off the back of a title winning season. This speaks volumes about the kind of form that Charles Leclerc has had in the opening few races. Ferrari has definitely spoilt the party for Red Bull and their wish to have a comfortable season.
We saw a masterclass from the Monegasque driver which helped him extend his lead to 34 points over Mercedes’ George Russell. We expected more resistance from Max Verstappen and Red Bull but the RB-18 was no match against the F1-75 in Melbourne.
Charles Leclerc started the race in Pole Position ahead of the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez and then went unrivalled for the rest of the race. And the Monagesque claims his F175 was tuned perfectly to allow him to claim his second victory in a dominating fashion.
Charles Leclerc doesn’t intend to get carried with the results in the opening few races and deal with one race at a time
But, the 24 year old is not letting all the success get to him and is focused on the next challenge his way. He has been delighted by the car provided to him. Charles Leclerc said, “Now that I know I have a competitive car under me, my mindset has changed a bit.”
“I don’t need to go overboard or do something extremely special and spectacular to get 1-2 positions, because I know it’s in the car, I just have to do the job.”
“I’ve been in this situation in the junior categories but then, to be in this situation in Formula 1 means a lot.”
“Especially after the last few years, and especially with a team like Ferrari, so it feels incredible.” As reported by racingnews365.
Charles Leclerc has done everything that could have been asked of him but the job is not done by any stretch of the imagination. Hence, if he intends to claim his first world championship, he needs to keep up the form he has displayed.
