‘It’s good to be back after such a long wait,’ Fernando Alonso glad to see ‘El Plan’ take shape after first day of F1 pre-season testing

Fernando Alonso was delighted with Alpine’s work on the first day of F1 pre-season testing in Barcelona, as ‘El Plan‘ for the 2022 season began to take shape.
As the striking blue and pink A522 took to the track for the first time, the Spaniard finished the day eighth fastest while completing the second-most number of laps – 127.
The two-time champion returned to F1 last year after a two-year hiatus, and he even scored a podium. But it was clear to everyone that the real reason for his return was to compete with F1’s new era of machinery entering the sport this year.
Alonso’s thoughts about the first day of pre-season testing
After completing his first running of the pre-season testing, Alonso said: “It’s good to be back after such a long wait,”
“We’ve spent a long time preparing for this moment at both factories and in the garage, a lot of hours have gone into this moment. The cars are very different from last year and we need to adjust to a lot of new characteristics,” says Fernando Alonso.
“We still have a lot of work to do but this is why we are at testing. We completed some good mileage and our reliability has been quite strong for the first day of testing,” Fernando Alonso added.
When asked what the most important thing for the team to focus on during the testing was, Fernando Alonso said: “Mileage and reliability are more important than performance in testing, so overall we’re quite pleased with the first day in our new car,”
Alonso’s teammate, Esteban Ocon, will take over for the second day of testing, while for the third and last day, the testing duties will be shared by each driver.
