Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto throws out Lewis Hamilton’s claims and laughingly admits ‘Mercedes are in pole position’
Lewis Hamilton and Mattia Binotto
Ferrari has had a flyer in the pre season as they were quick out of the blocks and emerged as the pace setters with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz looked in absolute control. Charles Leclerc even secured P1 on day and Carlos Sainz was also not far off. This did raise some eyebrows in the Mercedes camp and it also did get a reaction out of Lewis Hamilton.
On the other hand, Mercedes was on the other end of the spectrum in their preparation for the new season. Mercedes were all in all disappointing keeping the high bar that they have set for themselves. If the seven time world champion finishes P16 on of the days, alarm bells should start ringing even if you are Mercedes keeping in mind the competition around you.
But this hasn’t stopped Lewis Hamilton start the mind games with Ferrari who seem to look like they hold pole position before the season starts. Lewis Hamilton said that he thinks that Ferrari looks like that they are months ahead. Ferrari Boss quickly dismissed the claims and said that it’s not the case.
Formula 1 season might not have started but battle of words definitely has with Lewis Hamilton firing shots at Mattia Binotto and Ferrari
Ferrari are not getting carried away with the start they have had. These are promising signs but pre season does not paint the entire picture and Mattia Binotto has realized that.
Lewis Hamilton started this battle of words by saying, “You would assume that Ferrari perhaps didn’t do much development on [the 2021] car and just put everything into this year’s car.”
Mattia Binotto responded by saying, “Does that mean that they’re several months ahead? Or a team is several months ahead? We’ll wait and see.”
“I’m pretty sure that they will be two or three months ahead of us by the time we will be in Bahrain!” he jokingly predicted. As reported by planetf1.
Charles Leclerc also sung the same tune as Mattia Binnoto when he said, “Always nice to see yourselves P1, but it doesn’t mean anything.”
“I’m feeling reasonably good.”
The season might not have started but the classic pre season mind games already have. Both the team want to get into each other’s head so that the one fumbles and the other one could take advantage of the same.
