The 7 times world champion Mercedes Lewis Hamilton had a season to forget as the Britt missed out on the chance to become the driver with most F1 titles if he had won his 8th securing  the record, one he shares with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher, to himself.

The decision to allow only the cars between Lewis Hamilton at p1 and Max Verstappen at p2 unlap during the safety car lap by race director Michael Masi presented Max Verstappen who was on the new tyres chance to overtake and secure the title in the final lap of season finisher in Abu Dhabi which he did.

Following the lose Lewis Hamilton and the entire F1 team was devastated and their appeal on the incident was rejected.  Lewis Hamilton unfollowed everyone on Instagram and kept him off of all social media platforms and team Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton also didn’t appear in the mandatory FIA Prize Giving Gala all of which caused retirement speculations over Lewis Hamilton racing career.

New FIA precedent Ben Sulayem has revealed that he has messaged Lewis Hamilton but is yet to receive any reply and he added that he believes he isn’t yet ready to reply. Ben Sulayem expressed optimism that thinks will work out in the future.

I sent him messages, yes. I think he is not 100 per cent ready to respond yet and I understand his position,” Ben Sulayem said.

In the end, we are all human and the stress and pressure were there, so I think it will all work out. You have to look more to the future than to the past,” Ben Sulayem added.

Can Lewis Hamilton be penalised for not attending F1 gala?

FIA Prize Giving Gala  Mandatory for teams and drivers to attend according to regulations and Team Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton had failed to do so. When asked about it new FIA precedent said there are rules and integrity of FIA should be respected but added that he wont judge anyone before knowing the exact fact.

As you read in the press, the new president is going to sanction; of course, they [the media] spice things up a lot with what is important for others……, There are rules we have to respect, and we have to respect the integrity of the FIA. And I can’t judge anyone until I know the exact facts,” says Ben Sulayem.

Lewis Hamilton could face fine or a reprimand. However, a reprimand will potentially have consequences for Lewis Hamilton in 2021 season as he already has two reprimands for on-track incidents and an additional one will be given a 10-place grid penalty according to FIA regulations

A driver who receives three reprimands in a 12-month period, with two relating to actions on track, will be given 10 seconds grid penalty,” :section 18.2 of the Sporting Regulations.
