Formula 1 monitoring situation in Russia “very closely” as the sale of Russian GP tickets halted amidst global tensions

The doubts regarding the Russian GP are high after Russian forces have launched a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. After months of escalation on the Russia-Ukraine border, Russia has declared a full-fledged invasion of Ukraine after recognising rebel-held territories in Luhansk and Donetsk independence.

With UEFA considering changing the 2022 Champions League Final from Saint Petersburg if the situation worsens, FIA and Formula One will be monitoring the situation closely and might consider removing the Russian Grand Prix from their 23 race calendar.

The speculations regarding the cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix are high after F1 halted the ticket sales from its official site with a replacement race to be announced soon if needed.

Formula One will have to take a call regarding the Russian Grand Prix. With US, UK and other countries considering imposing hefty sanctions on Russia, the situation could become worse.

F1 issued a short statement on Thursday regarding the matter stating, “Formula 1 is closely watching the very fluid developments like many others and at this time has no further comment on the race scheduled for September. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely.”
