“He Knew What was Going to Happen”: Lewis Hamilton Blames Max Verstappen for Italian GP Crash

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen

Just when race fans thought, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have parted ways and are focused upon fetching the best result without contact on the track, there comes an incident in Monza which has everyone talking. The two leaders in the driver’s standings were once again seen coming into contact and as a result of which both were ruled out of the race. More importantly Verstappen’s tyre flew right on top of Hamilton’s head.

On one side where the fans of the Dutchman feel, Lewis Hamilton should have left some space, the on-going talk inside the formula1 world rules it as a racing incident. But the official word is yet to come from the steward. But when Hamilton was asked upon the same, the seven-time world champion blamed his competitor for the same.

In his interview with Sky Sports, Hamilton reported that he was feeling okay, but felt the crash. “I’m a little bit stiff, and sore on my neck because it landed on my neck but I’ll be okay,” Hamilton said after the Grand Prix had finished.

“Just from what I remember, I was racing as hard as I could, just got past Lando and got into the lead. Pitted. I came out, saw Daniel go past, made sure I left a car’s width. Went into turn one ahead, and ahead in turn two then all of a sudden he was on top of me.”

At the chicane, Hamilton and Verstappen touched wheels and Hamilton went across the kerbstones. The Brit believes Verstappen should’ve done the same in the middle of the race.

“He absolutely should’ve done what I did at turn four on lap. I went around the outside, I gave way. That’s racing. He knew what was going to happen. He knew he was going over the kerbs. We’ll go to the stewards and we’ll see,” Hamilton said.

“We lost two seconds today in the pit stop which is frustrating, when it counts we need to deliver but we didn’t. I’m sure we’ll talk when we get to the stewards.”
