Ferrari continues their great start to the season by dominating the charts in the Qualifying session of the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc claimed the pole position with a blistering time of 1:17.868. The Monagesque looks to extend his lead on the Drivers Championship standings with another solid performance.

Leclerc managed to pip 2021 World Champion Max Verstappen in the last lap of the session to claim the Pole position. The Dutchman will start P2 while Sergio Perez will start P3 Meanwhile teammate Carlos Sainz managed only a P9 after lacking pace.

Charles Leclerc beat the Red Bulls of Sergio Perez and Maz Verstappen to claim his second pole of the season. He will be starting alongside rival Max on the front row for the first race in Australia in 3 years. The track has not suited Leclerc’s driving style in the past, but he was thrilled to take the first spot for the race tomorrow.

Leclerc said, “It felt good. Even more, because it is a track I have always struggled in the past as a driver. I know it probably doesn’t fit me as well. This weekend we worked hard. It was a bit messy for me in the three Free Practice sessions for me, I did manage to put some good laps. But in Q3 I managed to put everything together so it feels great. And I am very happy to be starting on Pole position tomorrow.”

He acknowledged the pace of the Red Bulls and looks for a close race tomorrow, saying, “The car is very nice to drive. The Red Bulls were quicker in FP2 during the long fuel run. But we were surprised with our pace in Qualifying. We just need to do well tomorrow and get a good start.”

This was Ferrari’s first pole position in the Australian GP since Kimi Raikonnen claimed it in 2007. That year saw Ferrari win their last World Championship as the Finn won his first and only title in a dramatic finish. Ferrari has since been hunting for their next title but it seems 2022 seems to be the year of the ‘Prancing Horse.’
