Ferrari continued their good run of form in 2022 after both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished P2 and P3 in the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Italian racing team lead the constructor’s championship with 78 points, 40 clear of their Mercedes at 2nd, ahead of the Australian GP.
Both the drivers have finished on the podium of the first two races, with Leclerc claiming victory in the season opener in Bahrain. The Monagesque also claimed the fastest laps in the two races and leads the driver’s standings as well. Sainz sits second in the championship after the first two races, 12 points behind Leclerc and seven points clear of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Carlos Sainz was impressed with his performance in his second Saudi Arabian GP. The Spaniard expressed that he was struggling in certain corners of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit but it was overall, “one of the best experiences year so far.”

Since the start of the season, Carlos Sainz has put a consistent and commendable performance in the first two races of the season. Sainz qualified third in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, never finishing more than two-tenths of a second shy of the pole position time. But he admits he is still learning how to become better after admitting to certain ‘struggles.’
Sainz said after the race in Saudi Arabia, “This has been one of the best experiences year so far, experience in terms of just going to a track that 100 days ago, I was here with a super high level of confidence with last year’s car. I was super-weak in quali and in the race. And I knew exactly what to expect from the car and what the car was giving me.”
He added, “This year, I seem to be struggling quite a bit more and I’m not driving the car the way that it should be driven. Together with the car not giving me exactly the feeling that I need for my driving, this combination of things is what I’m working on this week. And I think I’ve made a step forward and I’ve made a step in the right direction for the race.”
Sainz has admitted he is negotiating his contract extension with Ferrari. Contract talks are understandable amidst such strong performances to which Sainz said, “We’re getting there.” The team look the strongest this season and looks to reaffirm their lead with a win in the Australian GP.
