“I’m not thinking about the championship,” Max Verstappen gives a grim view on title hopes

Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen was left hanging by a highly unreliable RB-18 as he registered his second DNF of the season. That’s not what he wished for following his title winning season. But that’s the beauty of Formula 1. If you don’t bring your A game to the table, there is another driver and another constructor waiting to pounce at every opportunity possible. That’s what Charles Leclerc and Ferrari have done in their vintage style.

There were speculations that Max Verstappen and Red Bull would be runaway winners this season. But, that has definitely gone out of the window after an electric and flawless start to the season by Ferrari and Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver has been running in a league of his own racking up some impressive wins, while others battle to fix their problems. If Red Bull doesn’t sort its house quickly, it could be curtains before it even starts.

Max Verstappen has tried to do everything in his capacity to churn out some results but he has got absolutely no support from his team and his challenger, RB-18. The car definitely stands no chance against the i. There is a substantial difference in pace between the two cars. But, pace at this time seems like a luxury for Max Verstappen as he has failed to finish two races out of the first three ones this season.

The signs are worrying for Red Bull and Max Verstappen. It’s gone horribly wrong for him and he has publicly admitted to the difficulties he has faced. The reigning world champion said, “We’re already miles behind, so I don’t even want to think about the championship fight at the moment. I think it’s more important to finish races.

“I knew I could not fight Charles [Leclerc], so there was no point to try and put pressure on him.

“We need to get faster and more reliable, so I’m not thinking about the championship.”

But yeah, we didn’t even finish the race. It’s pretty frustrating and unacceptable. I knew there was a problem.

So it was always going to be a question mark of finishing the race. I mean, these kinds of things, if you want to fight for the title, they cannot happen.” As reported by skysports.

Max Verstappen has definitely struggled on his new champion, even more than his team mate, i. Red Bull have not been able to provide the reigning world champion with a potentially title winning car. But this could all change in a matter of weeks. Let’s hope all this can change and Max can pose a serious threat to Charles Leclerc.
