“It’s typical Mercedes,” Carlos Sainz engages in war of words with George Russell after Briton’s Ferrari remark

Rookie driver George Russell will be partnering with 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton after the Brit replaced Alfa Romeo bound Valtteri Bottas ahead of the 2022 Formula One season. Russell, a Mercedes Junior driver since 2017 joins the Brackley based team after spending 3 years at Williams.

George has shown great pace during the Pre-season Testing in Barcelona. The Briton completed more than 200 laps and even set the fastest time in Barcelona only to be beaten by teammate Hamilton. But he was impressed by the efforts of Ferrari and stated that Ferrari look “globally the strongest” ahead of the season opener.

But Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz took no time in refuting the hype by Russell and claimed it to be “typical Mercedes, typical George” behaviour. The Spaniard believes Mercedes hype the other teams and “blow up the competition” when the moment arrives.
