Jos Verstappen and Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen has finally taken the lead of the Driver’s Standing as he won the Monaco GP and overtook Lewis Hamilton after trailing by 14 points beforehand. Although it might be a pride for all of Max’s friends and family members, his father Jos Verstappen revealed that he never doubted Max to go and win the race, yet had goosebumps when he crossed the finish line.

In conversation with the Dutch Formula 1 Magazine Jos Verstappen looks back on seeing his son’s victory at Monaco GP, which was his second win of the 20201 F1 season, as follows, ” I had goosebumps when Max crossed the finish line.”

Verstappen Sr then contemplated his son’s performance on the street circuit and stated that Max has always been good and got the better of other drivers in such circumstances.

Despite being present earlier in the week, Jos Verstappen could not be there in person during the Grand Prix. Nevertheless, he did have contact with his son prior to the start, as is usual between the two: “We discuss things every day. I also spoke to him just before the start of the race: then it is mainly about strategy and Max tells me what they are going to do.”

“Monaco is of course a special race, very special,” continued Jos Verstappen. “I knew it was going to happen, because Max is almost always good on street circuits.”

Max Verstappen answered all his critics in the most emphatic of ways after clinching his second win out of 5 Grand Prix in the 2021 Formula 1 Season. But with the stakes raised so high by Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton is sure to bounce back in roaring form, what will be Red Bull’s counter then? It remains to be seen.
