Lando Norris is nervous about the new MCL36 and might need time to adapt to the new McLaren ahead of 2022 season

With the start of the new season, McLaren driver, Lando Norris has gotten a lot of time to experience with the new driving style with the all new 2022 machinery and has started getting conscious as he might need time to adapt to the new McLaren ahead of the 2022 season.

F1’s pre-season testing officially begins from February 22, Wednesday commencing with the first of two three days tests. With F1 introducing its biggest change in rule since 2009 with features in car that completely overhauled aerodynamics designed around the ground effect, drivers seem to be ready with their new 2022 challenger after hours of intense practice in the virtual world in their new equipment in simulators.

Lando Norris made perfect use of his time in the sim by experimenting with new changes and driving styles to suit the all new MCL36, the team’s 2022 challenger. He did the following to prepare himself with any changes leading to the car on the grid. Along with the new rules in play, Lando is ready with all the tricks up his sleeve if the car needs a different approach in order to get the most of it.

“Of course, that’s in the back of my head,” he said when asked if he’s mindful of having to adapt his driving to the 2022-spec cars.

“On the simulator I’ve been spending a lot of time not just driving the car but being prepared to drive it in different ways and being ready to drive in different driving styles because of this.

“I would say our car has been quite specific in the last few years in how to drive it and how to get performance out of it. That showed through Daniel [Ricciardo] coming to drive the car. I think it is the case that some cars are easier to adapt to than others.”

Fresh start for both the drivers at McLaren

Since the day Daniel Ricciardo joined the team, he has been struggling with putting forth his best performance and his efforts were not shown in the results. He was always seen struggling with the MCL35M but the new era of F1 gives a chance to Daniel to prove himself again by putting both the drivers on equal footing while Lando had an advantage before.

The 2022 season brings in a lot of curiosity and challenges with regards to every driver on the grid, the young brit seems to be conscious about the situation thinking every driver could end up in Daniel’s 2021 position.

I think there’s that for everyone: that they might suit people’s driving styles more than others, and it could potentially be a hard one for me,” said Norris by being confident in quickly adapting to his new machinery. Before F1 I had to deal with it in every category I did, and I spent one year in every season and each year I had to adapt something new and try to make the most of that.

“It has been proven by champions and race winners that an F1 car is not an easy thing to get your head around and get in the zone, which I felt I did more last year and that is what Daniel struggled with,” said Norris hoping to suit to his new driving style while adapting to new things and acknowledging the new inevitable occurrence of changes in F1.
