James Allison the Mercedes Chief Technical Officer has recently come out with a statement that is going to worry a few of the teams on the 2022 Formula1 grid.

It has been stated in the Express that as per James Allison Formula1 teams could be in for a painful year especially those who didn’t get their car designs right for the upcoming season. The 2022 Formula1 season marks the beginning of a new era in Formula1 with new restrictions that will impact the aerodynamics, tire width, and power unit developments of various cars.

The new regulations are coming given what transpired in the 2021 season with only two teams fighting for the title in Mercedes and RedBull and the same was the case in the driver’s championship with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The duo shared 15 of the 22 Grand Prix wins among themselves.

However, for the 2022 season, midfield teams like Ferrari, McLaren, and Alpine have said positive things regarding their developments for the upcoming season and the pundits and fans of the sport have been left with intrigue as to what surprises the teams might have in store for the 2022 Formula1 season.

In a video released by Mercedes, James Allison has said “I would imagine that all of us to some degree will have left things on the table that we just didn’t anticipate and will look at other cars and think ‘oh why didn’t we think of that?”

Then we’ll be scrabbling around to try and get that idea onto our car as fast as possible so that we can claw our way from whatever position we land in that first race so that we can claw our way forward – or, if we’re lucky enough to be in front, to keep the attacking wolves behind us.”

James Allison believes that there will not be much time for relaxing during the upcoming season and in light of this has said “It’s going to be quite a rush and definitely something that’s going to keep us all from having too much sleep for the whole of the season.”

While all these things are going on there are still doubts over the availability of Lewis Hamilton for the 2022 Formula1 season. If Lewis decides to retire before the upcoming season then it would certainly prove to be a body blow for the Brackley-based Mercedes team.
